“Battered” Crunchy Baked Fries are super easy to prep, and come out of the oven perfectly crispy and browned! They’re egg free and dairy free, and almost taste like they have a light batter (although they are not actually battered), with a similar texture to Brew City fries.

These crispy baked fries so good that by Wednesday night, I had already made them twice this week! They do take a little while to bake (almost 25 minutes), but are so worth the wait. Bake time may vary, depending on how thick you cut them, too.

While my battered crunchy baked fries may have “battered” in the name, as I mentioned before, there is no actual batter involved, making the process much easier and less messy. They’re simply tossed in a little olive oil, followed by Ritz crackers, cornstarch, and spices.
Maybe it’s just me, but I dare you not to taste-test about 7 of them right out of the oven just to “be sure” they’re done. 😉
These fries can easily be made gluten free / wheat free by substituting your favorite GF buttery style cracker.

“Battered” Crunchy Baked Fries (Egg Free, Dairy Free, Vegan)
Ingredients
- 4-5 medium potatoes
- 1 Tbsp oive oil
- 8 Ritz crackers (may use another brand, or GF crackers to suit your dietary needs)
- 1 Tbsp cornstarch
- ¼ tsp Chili powder
- ⅛ tsp Garlic powder
- ⅛ tsp Onion powder
- ½ tsp salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425F. Grease 1-2 baking sheets (depending on size).
- Peel and wash potatoes. Pat dry, and cut into ¼-inch thick strips.
- Finely crush your Ritz crackers in a small bowl (a food processor works very well, otherwise you can use the back of a fork). Stir in cornstarch, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt until combined.
- Add sliced potatoes to large bowl and toss with the olive oil. Add half the cracker mix and toss. Add remaining mix, and toss again.
- Arrange fries in a single layer on greased baking sheet.
- Bake at 425F for 15 minutes or until bottoms are crisp and golden brown. Flip, and bake additional 10-15 minutes. For extra crispiness, broil on high for 1-2 minutes.
