This homemade Honey Barbecue Sauce recipe is sweet, savory, and easy to make with ingredients from your pantry. It makes excellent homemade Honey BBQ pulled chicken, pulled pork, or boneless ribs (and all three can be made in a crock pot or Instant Pot). It’s free of the top 8 allergens, and safely made in your own kitchen.

Honey Barbecue Sauce is also a wonderful addition to meatloaf or burgers. Use it anywhere you would use regular barbecue sauce. This small batch makes about ½ cup, but you can easily double or triple the recipe to make a larger batch. It keeps well in a tightly sealed jar in the fridge.

Condiments can be tricky for those with food allergies. Sauces and condiments are often processed on lines with nuts or other allergens, and not necessarily disclosed on the package. Did you know that cross contamination labeling is NOT required? Making your own sauces at home with your own trusted brands is one way to avoid potential CC.

For my family, safely handling food allergies means cooking at home most of the time, so we know exactly what goes into our food. As a bonus, we probably eat healthier than we would otherwise! I think this has also (surprisingly) made my toddler a more adventurous eater. Everything we make is safe, and he eats what we eat – from grilled pork steak and roasted vegetables to shrimp scampi! Of course, we do still make the occasional macaroni and cheese or chicken nuggets (which are also great with homemade Honey BBQ)!

I have about 10 or 11 food allergies and sensitivities and every barbecue sauce I eat makes me sick. I just made this sauce to put in Brunswick stew and it is the best sauce I have tasted. It taste just like barbecue sauce, but much better than what you buy in the store. I will be making this sauce again. Thank you.

Thank you so much for your review – I’m glad you enjoyed it! There are so many ingredients in store bought sauces that we also like to go the homemade route when we can, to ensure we know exactly what goes into it. I’ve never had Brunswick stew, but it sounds tasty. We may have to try it sometime!
