Reminiscent of fairs and summertime fun, these baked egg free Mini Corn Dogs are the perfect meal or snack for hungry kids. They have a short ingredients list, are allergy friendly, and are baked instead of fried. Bonus: they take less than 25 minutes from start to finish, and are toddler-approved!
We love Applegate’s Natural uncured beef hot dogs for our baked mini corn dogs (not an advertisement –– we just really like them), but you can use your favorite brand.
A great dish to serve at a party or playdate, these baked mini corn dogs also pair well with veggies or a salad for an easy lunch or dinner. Plan ahead by freezing in a single layer (once baked and cooled) – once frozen, store in a resealable bag for a later date.

Egg Free Mini Corn Dogs (can also be made Dairy Free)
Ingredients
- 2/3 cup all purpose flour + 1/2 tsp for dusting hot dogs
- 1/2 cup cornmeal
- 3 Tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/8 tsp onion powder (optional)
- 1/2 cup milk of choice
- 3 Tbsp unsweetened applesauce
- 3 Tbsp canola or vegetable oil
- 6 hot dogs
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400F. Spray mini muffin tins (24 mini muffin cups) with cooking spray.
- Cut each hot dog into 4 equal size pieces. In a small bowl, lightly dust the hot dogs with 1/2 teaspoon of flour until lightly coated (this will help them stick to the batter).
- In a bowl, whisk or stir together flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, salt, and onion powder (optional).
- Add milk, applesauce, and oil and stir just until combined.
- Scoop batter equally into 24 mini muffin cups. Press 1 hot dog piece into each cup (the batter will come up around the hot dog on either side).
- Bake for about 10 minutes, or until batter is lightly golden and cooked through. Allow to cool in pan for several minutes before carefully removing.
Could these be made the same with Bobs Red Mill gf cornbread mix? I need eggless but also gluten free. Thanks!
Hello! I haven’t used with that mix before, so unfortunately I’m not sure how it would turn out. I wonder if you could follow the box instructions for mixing, but substitute applesauce (maybe 2-3 Tablespoons) per egg, or use an egg substitute?
My hubby and I love these treats…we call them Piggies in a Blanket.
Such a tasty batter dough.
Thanks for the recipe.
Can these be frozen?
Hello! These can be frozen after baked – lay out in a single layer in the freezer until frozen, then store in an airtight ziploc bag (this will prevent them from sticking together).
Could these be made in regular size muffin pan? How long would it take to bake do you think?
Thank you.
CharlieAnn
Hi CharlieAnn – I bet these would work out well in a regular muffin pan, too! I would try baking for about 11-14 minutes instead (checking after 11 minutes).
