These egg free Crispy Baked Chicken Strips are eggless, dairy free, and toddler-approved! They’re easy to make with a few basic ingredients (like Ritz crackers) and spices.
Jump to RecipeMy egg and dairy free chicken strips are baked instead of fried – this makes them quite a bit healthier than the fried version, and they crisp up nicely in the oven.
If you prefer egg free chicken nuggets or strips that are more tender and juicy, use boneless/skinless chicken thighs! This is the way we have been preferring it lately, including the kids. The meat retains more moisture, and is easier for kids to eat.
Most breaded and baked chicken recipes call for egg to adhere the breading to the chicken. Instead of egg, my recipe simply calls for your favorite oil (I’ve used vegetable oil or olive oil) as the base.
After placing each piece in the oil, press the chicken into the dry mix and coat evenly before baking. A similar technique is used for my Egg Free Fish Sticks – another kid favorite!

How To make Egg Free Chicken Strips (or Nuggets!)
- Rinse and dry your raw chicken, and slice into strips or nuggets. Place chicken in a bowl with the oil while you prepare the breading.
- In a food processor, pulse Ritz crackers into fine crumbs (you may also crush by hand, with the back of a fork). Place crushed crackers in a medium bowl, and stir in remaining dry ingredients.
- One at a time, press each oil-covered chicken strip into dry mix, coating evenly on all sides.
- Bake on a greased cookie sheet, with space in between each strip, until crispy! You’ll want to flip about 2/3 through if you want each side to have the same crispness.

Egg Free Crispy Chicken Strips (Dairy Free)
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts OR thighs
- 3 Tbsp vegetable or olive oil
- 1 cup crushed Ritz crackers or similar (about 24 Ritz), OR breadcrumbs
- 2 Tbsp all purpose flour
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp chili powder
- 1/8 tsp onion powder
- 1/8 tsp garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400F, and grease edged baking sheet with cooking spray.
- Cut chicken into 1 1/2 inch strips (or nuggets) and mix with oil, using your hands or a large spoon, until evenly coated.
- Crush crackers into crumbs – I use a food processor, or crush them in a plastic Ziploc bag. Stir in flour and spices and place in a medium to large bowl.
- Press each chicken strip into the dry mix until evenly coated, and place on baking sheet, allowing space between each piece.
- Bake 10-14 minutes, or until bottom is crisp and golden brown. Carefully flip each piece, and bake an additional 8 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through and both sides are golden brown. Please note: bake time will depend on the size of your cuts.
