Egg Free Coleslaw

Summer break is here, and it’s time to share my creamy egg free coleslaw recipe! This tangy coleslaw requires no eggs or mayo, and comes together in a pinch. You’ll just need just a handful of standard ingredients from your fridge and pantry, along with a bag of dry coleslaw mix.

You can also chop up your own cabbage and carrot blend, but I like to keep it quick and simple with a bagged mix. Double the recipe for a larger batch – perfect for a summer barbecue or a larger group!

Egg Free Coleslaw

I’ve been making this egg free coleslaw for about a year now, and it’s been a great addition to summer dinners. It’s very easy to make, and can even be made ahead of time. It keeps well in the fridge for a few days. The cabbage will add a little moisture after a day or so, but give it a little stir beforehand, and it’ll be good to go.

Most traditional coleslaw recipes call for mayonnaise, which contains eggs. With an egg allergy in the house, we have steered clear of mayo in our recipes.

eggless coleslaw

My creamy coleslaw contains no eggs or egg products. It uses sour cream as the base, along with vinegar and lemon juice for some tanginess. You can also plain Greek yogurt for a boost of protein, and without sacrificing flavor. I’ve also used a combination of sour cream and Greek yogurt – it’s all delicious!

This creamy coleslaw uses no eggs and is excellent alongside burgers, hot dogs, and other grilled summer food. Creamy eggless coleslaw is also tasty on top of or on the side of breaded fish sandwiches (one of my favorite ways to eat it).

My son is allergic to eggs, so we are no strangers to coming up with alternatives for summer picnics and barbecues.

Simple Ingredients

My coleslaw requires no eggs (unlike most mayo-based recipes), and uses simple ingredients to get a fresh, tangy flavor.

Sour Cream or Greek Yogurt (plain, unsweetened) is the base for this creamy coleslaw. Try dairy-free sour cream for a vegan/dairy free version!

Lemon Juice and Vinegar add some zest and tang to this creamy egg free coleslaw dressing.

Olive Oil (or a light/neutral-tasting oil) adds some extra fat to give it that classic coleslaw flavor and consistency.

Sugar, Mustard, and Salt add some sweetness and flavor to finish off this summer favorite!
